I have been living in Southern California for almost my whole life and have never been to the Getty Museum. That changed last week when I decided it was time to be a tourist in my own town. It is amazing how many museums, attractions, cultural centers, and points of interest are in the Los Angeles area that I have never seen. So I have decided to make a point to visit some of these places since they are right in my own backyard.
The view is great as you are up high in the hills. When I arrived, I parked in the parking garage and chose to walk the 3/4 of a mile up hill to the entrance instead of taking the tram(I might reconsider that next time). Once I arrived at the entrance, I was surprised at how large it is. There are several buildings, many places to sit and relax, and just space, so it is not so crowded. I went in to the main building, got a map and off I went.
Many of the paintings are of the Holy Family or related to The Bible. I liked this painting because of Mary’s hands. It was amazing to gaze at this painting, it is so lifelike. The faces, so expressive and the clothes are flowing. However, the hands are what really made me stop a stare at this painting.
I found it interesting that I could just walk by some paintings and hardly give them a glance, but others, stopped me cold. Some paintings made me feel kinda creepy, they were very dark or of unpleasant scenes. I had quite a few different feelings as I walked thru the rooms.
This painting caught my eye because the drops of water were so realistic, I felt that if I touched it, my hand would come away wet. The different shades of the grapes showing the various stages of ripeness, just so organic.

When I went to the Getty Museum, I did not realize that they had Monet paintings. I am not a huge fan of Monet, but I like a few of his paintings.
This painting was the reason I came to the Getty Museum. I wanted to see the Van Gogh paintings that they have.
To me, Van Gogh’s painting are interesting. I find his story intriguing and sad. I hope to view more of his paintings in the future.
Overall, my visit to The Getty Museum was fun, educational, and inspiring. I have developed a newfound appreciation for art, especially paintings.
The Getty Museum is a great place to spend the day. There are several buildings to go thru and many rooms full of interesting pieces of art. There’s a cafe and a restaurant. There is food and drink carts outside and many places to sit and just enjoy the place. I had a great time and plan to go back often. I hope that this post inspires you to go to The Getty Museum if you visit LA, or live here, if you have not all ready been. I think it is time well spent. It certainly inspired me.
